Paw-alert: Manguluru man saves street dogs from zooming traffic with reflective collars

Cars zooming at breakneck speed along the signal-free expressway is a common sight in our metro cities. Especially when night descends, vehicles pose a very dangerous threat to pedestrians crossing these highways. More than humans, they pose a deathly threat to our furry friends who roam the streets freely - stray dogs.

Taking a step to warn oncoming speedsters of their presence, a Mangaluru resident Thousif Ahmad has been attaching reflective collars around the street dogs for the past one and a half months.

Speaking to ANI about the fruitfulness of his project, Ahmad said,"It has been 1.5 months that I have started this project and luckily not a single dog with a collar around its neck has been injured."

He also said in an interview that he has already tagged 400 stray dogs with these reflective collars.

"Based on my own observations, I gathered that most of these accidents occur during the night time due to the lack of visibility of the stray animals. Especially close to the highway, there is an unaccounted number of deaths of these animals on the road," he said.

"The reflector belt on dogs not only saves the lives of these animals, but it also saves the lives of the drivers," he added.

His efforts to save the dogs from traffic have been appreciated by dog lovers across the nation.
