Zomato user Amit Shukla's Tweet that sparked a nationwide controversy is longer available. Shukla's demand for cancellation of his own food order only because it was being delivered by a 'non-Hindu' rider created quite a stir on the microblogging platform. Through his Tweet, Shukla had shared his disbelief over how the food-delivery app allocated a 'non-Hindu' rider to deliver his order. Shukla had also asked Zomato to change the rider or refund money on cancellation. Responding to Shukla's ridiculous demand, Zomato had a befitting reply:

"Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion," Zomato had said in reference to Shukla's tweet, which is no longer available on Twitter.

However, the reason behind the disappearance of Shukla's tweet was not immediately known.

Despite support from UberEats, Zomato's now-famous 'food has no religion' comment has been subject to wide criticism from a set of users who have accused Zomato of 'Hypocrisy' and 'Double standards' resulting in some fresh debates around why Zomato displays 'Halal' as a food preference to users. Responding to that, Zomato had this to say:

"The halal tag on Zomato is a result of restaurants seeking that distinction - not us as an aggregator. Restaurants (whether a Muslim establishment or otherwise) serving meat specifically obtain halal certification by an all-India body," Zomato said.
