ChatGPT app revenue: The ChatGPT app continues to gain traction with a significant increase in app installs and revenue. In September, it achieved a new record with 15.6 million downloads and gross revenue of nearly $4.6 million worldwide on both iOS and Android platforms.

However, recent data from market intelligence firm Appfigures indicates a slowdown in revenue growth. While the revenue growth was exceeding 30 per cent in the past months—31 per cent in July and 39 per cent in August—it dropped to 20 per cent growth as of September.

This slowdown could suggest that ChatGPT is nearing a point of saturation regarding the number of mobile users willing to pay for the premium ChatGPT+ subscription service, priced at $19.99 per month. The subscription offers faster response times, priority access during peak times, and early access to new features and improvements.

Despite this, ChatGPT+ has been selling well, generating substantial gross revenues month over month. Its gross revenues increased from $2.1 million in June to $4.58 million in September, marking a positive trend.

AskAI surpasses ChatGPT in revenue

Interestingly, ChatGPT is not the top AI app by revenue. A competitor named Ask AI has surpassed ChatGPT in revenue, attributed to its significant investment in advertising. Ask AI's revenue increased from $6.48 million in May (when ChatGPT mobile launched) to a peak of $6.55 million in August, slightly dropping to $5.51 million in September. It's important to consider net revenue, especially considering Ask AI's ad spend.

In September, ChatGPT saw a total of 15.6 million installs, adding to its lifetime total of 52.2 million estimated by Appfigures. Google Play accounted for a majority of the downloads with 9 million, while the App Store contributed 6.6 million downloads.

When it comes to revenue, the App Store played a significant role, accounting for $3 million of the total in-app purchases last month. The United States is identified as the largest market for the AI chatbot app, contributing to 60 per cent of ChatGPT’s revenues.
