US chipmaker Nvidia's Chief Executive announced on Monday, December 11, the company's plans to bolster its collaboration with Vietnam's leading tech firms. The expansion aims to enhance support for the Southeast Asian country in cultivating talent for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure.

Having already invested $250 million in Vietnam, Nvidia has actively engaged in partnerships with key tech players to implement AI across various sectors, including the cloud, automotive, and healthcare industries. This commitment was highlighted in a document published by the White House in September, coinciding with the upgrade of diplomatic relations between Washington and Vietnam.

"Vietnam is already our partner, with millions of clients here," stated Jensen Huang, Nvidia's CEO, during an event in Hanoi, marking his inaugural visit to the country. "Vietnam and Nvidia will deepen our relations, with Viettel, FPT, Vingroup, VNG being the partners Nvidia looks to expand partnership with," he added.

Nvidia is set to explore cooperation agreements on semiconductors with Vietnamese tech companies and authorities in a meeting scheduled for Monday, as reported by Reuters last week.

Huang's visit aligns with Vietnam's strategic efforts to venture into chip designing and potentially chip-making. The ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China have created opportunities for Vietnam in the semiconductor industry.

At the event on Monday, Vietnam's Investment Minister, Nguyen Chi Dzung, affirmed the country's preparations in terms of mechanisms and incentives to attract investment projects in the semiconductor and AI sectors. Dzung further urged Nvidia to consider establishing a research and development facility in Vietnam, responding to Huang's proposal after his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday.

As Nvidia solidifies its commitment to Vietnam's tech landscape, the collaboration holds the potential to drive advancements in AI development and contribute to the country's strategic goals in the semiconductor industry. The ongoing dialogue between Nvidia and Vietnamese authorities sets the stage for a promising partnership with mutual benefits for both parties.
