Virtual meeting between PM Modi and Sundar Pichai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a virtual interaction with Alphabet's CEO, Sundar Pichai, discussing various matters, including Google's plans to manufacture laptops in India and establish its footprint in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT).
According to the media reports, during the virtual meeting, PM Modi commended Google's collaboration with HP to produce Chromebooks within the country. He also welcomed Google's intention to establish its global fintech operations centre at the GIFT City in Gandhinagar.
Additionally, the discussion revolved around harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) for good governance. PM Modi urged Google to develop AI tools that would significantly contribute to effective governance. He acknowledged Google's "100 languages initiative" and underlined the importance of making AI tools accessible in local Indian languages.
Leveraging UPI through Google Pay
Sundar Pichai shared Google's plans to enhance financial inclusion in India by leveraging the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) through Google Pay. He affirmed Google's commitment to India's growth trajectory and ongoing development efforts. Moreover, PM Modi extended Pichai an invitation to participate in the upcoming AI Summit scheduled for December 2023 in New Delhi.

Notably, this virtual interaction occurred just ahead of the flagship Google for India summit scheduled for October 19 in New Delhi. The event is anticipated to revolve around AI technologies and will witness participation from prominent industry figures. Google hinted that the announcements during the event would cover a wide range of topics, from internet accessibility to achieving success on the internet.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is conducting a thorough investigation into Google's alleged dominance in the smart television segment and news aggregation space. Furthermore, Google's Rs 1,337.76 crore Android antitrust case hearing has been postponed to January 2024 by the Supreme Court.
