Radicalisation cannot have a free run in India

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh: Lareb (Larab) Hashmi, 20, used a cleaver on a bus conductor after a quarrel over ticket fare on Friday morning, police said. In a video statement, Hashmi claimed that he had attacked the conductor because he had "insulted Prophet Muhammad". Police said that Hashmi had tried to flee the spot, but was captured after he shot the conductor in the leg during an encounter. Police said that the incident began when Hashmi, a first year engineering student, got into a quarrel with bus conductor Harikesh (Vishwakarma), 24, over ticket fare. In the crossfire, Hashmi used a cleaver, inflicting severe injuries on the bus conductor, including injuries to his neck. Abhinav Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Prayagraj’s Yamunanagar area, said, "Following the incident, the accused was arrested by the police and a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered. Further investigation is underway."
