Maldives-India row: Post PM Modi's visit, Lakshadweep remains most-searched destination for 4th day

Lakshadweep remains most searched after a row erupted over Maldivian politicians ridiculing PM Modi's visit to the Island.

Lakshadweep remains the most searched keyword on Google since Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Union Territory and shared a few photos from the picturesque archipelago. PM Modi shared captivating photos of the island, triggering a surge in interest among people. These photos garnered widespread attention, with more and more people showing interest in this tourist destination.

Indian travel platforms come in support 

Online travel company MakeMyTrip mentioned that there is a massive surge in on-platform search by a whopping 3,400 per cent. This comes after a row erupted over Maldivian politicians ridiculing PM Modi's visit to Lakshadweep. Another Indian online travel agency, EaseMyTrip, announced that it has suspended all bookings for flights to the Maldives following the row.

Thrillophilia also showed support and claimed that they will be offering full refund to its customers for their upcoming trip to Maldives. 

Taking to social media, Thrillophilia wrote, “In light of the recent #Maldives controversy, we aim to prioritize the views of our valued customers and announce a 100% refund for their Maldives tour bookings.”

With this, the platform highlighted the need to refocus on the beauty of India’s diverse destinations. “Discover the unexplored wonders of Incredible India with us, where culture, landscapes, and hospitality blend seamlessly,” it mentioned on the social media post.

PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep

PM Modi has expressed his awe at the islands' stunning beauty and outlined plans for its futuristic infrastructure development, improved healthcare facilities, robust internet connectivity, and preservation of the region's local culture. Praising the ”stunning beauty" of the Lakshadweep islands, PM Modi took to ‘X’ to share some glimpses, including aerial glimpses from his visit to the Lakshadweep. “Our focus in Lakshadweep is to uplift lives through enhanced development”, PM Modi said, adding, that “in addition to creating futuristic infrastructure, it is also about creating opportunities for better healthcare, faster internet and drinking water, while protecting as well celebrating the vibrant local culture”.
