Prepare for your trip

Check the weather in advance. Make sure you are aware of existing road closures so that there are no end moment diversions. Along with the usual google maps, also make sure you carry a paper map in case you are out of mobile phone range. Also, a road trip must is to check the fuel, oil, and tire pressure levels

Travel with a winter emergency kit

Winter road trippers must carry an emergency kit. The potential items to include in your kit would be extra food and water, a first aid kit, and a warm blanket. Make sure you carry a shovel to help dig out of a drift. An ice scraper and brush is also a must.

Keep it dry

While wet is slippery, dry is way worse especially for frost bites. Wear quick-wicking fabrics such as wool rather than cotton. Make sure your clothes are fully dried before heading out. You can also use a waterproof drybag to store spare socks and lightweight base layers.

Use snow tires and chains

If you are planning a road trip during snowy and icy conditions, use a four-wheel drive with winter-rated tires and snow chains.
