Visiting Maharashtra can be one of the most adventurous experiences, whether it is in terms of food or simply sightseeing. The delicious food this state has to offer is unforgettable. The Marathi state of India has a large diversity of food items which are too tasty to miss out. Maharashtrian food is regarded to be very distinctive as the flavours and spice levels vary in different parts of the state. Here are some of the food items one must eat when visiting Maharashtra for the first.

Five must-try food items in Maharashtra

Vada Pav

Vada Pav is the most famous junk food of Maharashtra which has the heart of the state. Vada Pav is the most economical business of Maharashtra which produced in large quantities. It is consumed daily by hundreds of citizens. Vada Pav can simply be compared to burgers, some of its lovers may even call it better than burgers. The mashed potato masala mix is dipped in besan. Later, it is deep-fried in oil, and the vada is ready. The vada is then enjoyed with pav.

Poha

Poha is one of the most loved snacks of Maharashtrians which is made out of flattened rice. Poha can be prepared in various ways. The most common Poha dish consumed by people in this state is Kanda Poha which is made with onions. People of Maharashtra also like Batata Poha (made with diced potatoes) and more.

Pithla Bhakri

Pithla Bhakri is repetitive comfort food for many Maharashtrians. Although, it is also recognised as the Farmer's meal in the state. Pithla is mixed with Bhakri (sometimes roti) and it is easy to prepare. Pithla Bhakri is rich in veggies and a perfect dish if a person is searching for vegetarian food. Watery Pithla is consumed with rice and semi-liquid form of the same is eaten with Bhakri or Roti.

Puran Poli

This sweet dish is comparably similar to Paratha with filling. The filling of a Puran Poli is prepared from jaggery, chana dal, flour, cardamom powder and ghee. As Diwali is around the corner one will find Puran Poli being prepared in many houses.

Thalipeeth

Thalipeeth is a well-known Maharashtrian meal. This Maharashtrian dish is made of three flours, wheat, millet and besan. It also contains coriander and cumin seeds in it. Thalipeeth can be consumed along with pickles.
