Gwalior: In yet another incident of water leakage at Airport terminals, waterlogging was witnessed at the Gwalior airport causing inconvenience to the passengers. According to the video which has surfaced on social media, rainwater can be seen dripping from the roof of the airport terminal building.
However, authorities at Gwalior Airport have said that the situation is normal and regular inspection is being done to ensure that passengers don’t face any inconvenience.
Here's what Airport Authorities said:
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Gwalior Airport Authorities said, ”Despite the heavy rainfall of 5.23 inches in the Gwalior Chambal region, AAI is committed to facilitate the movement of passengers and maintaining smooth operations at Gwalior Airport.”
Speaking on the situation, an airport authority official working at the Gwalior Airport also said that the situation is not serious as waterlogging happened due to heavy rainfall overnight.
“After incidents in Delhi and Jabalpur Airports, we were conducting routine checks here. It has come to our notice that water was logged at the Departure gates. Our operational teams don’t work after 6 pm. Due to rain overnight, water was logged there. We conducted inspections and have instructed the teams to check the nearby drainages,” said Kashinath Yadav.
Built at a cost of Rs 500 crore, the new terminal building at Gwalior Airport also known as Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal was inaugurated in March this year.
“Temporary Issue”: Jyotiraditya Scindia
Former Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia called it a temporary issue and said that the matter has been resolved.
“As far as the Gwalior airport is concerned, I do not believe it is a permanent issue. It was a temporary problem; one day it rained heavily, causing a blockage in the drain, which led to water collecting in the arrival area outside,” Scindia said.
This incident comes after a partial roof collapse occurred at Delhi Airport’s Terminal-1 (T1) last week during heavy rains, resulting in one fatality and six injuries.
In another incident, a part of the canopy at Jabalpur Airport also collapsed recently. Though no one was injured in the incident, a car belonging to an Income Tax official was damaged. The airport was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi just three months ago on March 10.
