“Real Quality of Life”: Woman's Reflections on Quality of Life in India vs. the US Sparks Debate
An Indian woman's journey from convenience in India to clarity in the US redefines her definition of quality of life.
A woman recently shared her reflections comparing the quality of life between India and the US. Initially, she believed that conveniences like home-delivered groceries and affordable domestic help makes a luxurious life in India. However, her perspective shifted after visiting the US, where she emphasised that factors such as clean air and well-maintained roads truly define quality of life.
Niharika in her post pointed out that what she used to think was a luxury but after coming to the USA, she got to know the real luxury is different. She wrote, “Day 11 today in the US 🇺🇸 and here’s a thought I had yesterday evening. It might trigger some of you…
But if online text with somebody’s opinion triggers you that’s a space you should totally work on and protect for your own energy.”
She pointed out things which were good in India like, “quick food deliveries,” “10min grocery delivery,” and “affordable household help.”
However, after living in the USA she realised that some basic needs, like, “clean air,” “ongoing electricity,” “availability of water,” “plenty of greenery,” “good roads,” are actually the “real quality of life.”
She gave some more reasons and wrote, “One doesn’t need quick grocery delivery if they have clean air and the infrastructure to walk to the store without stray animals or fear of getting hit by the car. Or they can drive without crazy congestion and drivers coming from all directions.”
And this which made her happy in the past days which were “morning walks,” “good air,” “green pastures,” seeing sunrise and sunset,” “sounds of birds instead of honking.”
She ended her post by adding, “Anyhoo, perhaps it’s my definition of quality of life and luxury that has changed. I don’t know if I’ll ever attain any of the above. But it’s definitely a thought in my head.”
