Washington: In a significant escalation, the United States launched a major air strike operation aimed at Iran’s nuclear facilities. The mission was dubbed Operation Midnight Hammer. During a press briefing in the White House on Sunday, 22 June, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, described the mission as an "incredible and overwhelming success."
General Caine confirmed that three critical Iranian nuclear sites were struck within just 25 minutes during Operation Midnight Hammer, a high-stakes mission ordered directly by President Trump. “This operation was intended to severely degrade Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities,” Caine stated, underscoring the precision and scale of the attack.
He revealed that two dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired, and seven B-2 stealth bombers dropped 14 bunker-busting bombs on the targeted locations. The operation was spearheaded by U.S. Central Command, led by General Eric Gunilla.
According to Caine, to maintain tactical surprise, a part of the group of B-2 Bombers proceeded to the west, into the pacific as a decoy. This deception effort and the timings were only known to an extremely small number of people, he added.
Caine said that Iran’s air defenses failed to detect the incoming aircraft. “Iran's surface missiles didn’t see U.S. jets,” he pointed out, showcasing the effectiveness of stealth technology and meticulous operational planning. “This mission highlights the unmatched capability of the U.S. military. No other military in the world could have executed this.”
He also mentioned that the mission was the culmination of weeks of preparation and coordination across various military branches. “Very few in Washington were aware of the timing or nature of this plan. It was a highly classified operation.
The U.S. remains on high alert in the region, with military forces closely monitoring for any potential retaliation. “We will do everything to protect our forces. We are vigilant,” he assured
