7 Killed in Chile Plane Crash, Hours After Flight Plummeted Into Ground in Brazil

Santiago: A small plane carrying seven passengers including the pilot and the crew, crashed in Southern Chile on Friday.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the country, all seven on board lost their life in the crash.

The Chile Plane Crash has been reported hours after the deadly Brazil Plane Crash that claimed lives of 62 people.

Chile Plane Crash: Death Toll is 7

The Piper Navajo aircraft took off from Coyhaique, which is about 1,700 kilometres south of Santiago; shortly after the takeoff, contact was lost and soon after, the plane crash took place in Southern Chile.

In a statement, the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) said, “The pilot and his six passengers died."

Cause of Crash Unknown, Investigation to Begin Soon

The cause of the crash has not been revealed and according to reports, the prosecutor's office and Forensic Medical Service have been asked to launch an investigation.

As the weather conditions are not ideal in the mountainous area, there is no specific timeline as to when the bodies of the victims will be retrieved.

Brazil Plane Crash That Claimed 62 Lives

This crash in Chile happened hours after a similar incident in Brazil. A Brazilian plane 62 people onboard crashed in the city of Vinhedo in Brazil's Sao Paulo state on Friday. City officials at Valinhos, near Vinhedo, said there were no survivors and only one home in the local condominium complex had been damaged while none of the residents were hurt.

Airline Voepass said the plane, which had taken off from Cascavel, in the state of Parana, bound for Sao Paulo's main international airport, crashed in the town of Vinhedo, about 80 km (50 miles) northwest of Sao Paulo.

Social media is abuzz with footage of a large fire and smoke emanating from what seems to be the plane’s fuselage. Additional videos show the aircraft spiraling downward before crashing.
