A Time Called You star Ahn Hyo Seop talks about Rowoon, his 'awkward' romantic scenes

Ahn Hyo Seop is currently basking in the success of A Time Called You. The show features different timelines, one of which is a BL (Boys Love) plot that features Rowoon and Ahn Hyo. Recently, the Business Proposal actor spoke about his experience of working with his best friend.

Ahn Hyo Seop on his onscreen chemistry with Rowoon

When asked about his onscreen chemistry with Rowoon during an interview with SPOTVNEWS, Ahn humorously downplayed it. "I think it’s nothing special," he said, further sharing that they were friends before they worked together. However, he said that their initial professional meeting was a bit "awkward", but it eventually became "comfortable and enjoyable". 

"We were friends before, always saying, ‘Let’s work together someday,' But when it actually happened, it was super awkward at first. We were used to hanging out casually, but this was the first time we met professionally. Though it was awkward, it was also new, comfortable, and fun. But some moments were a bit uncomfortable. To be honest, it was tough at times."

Ahn Hyo revealed that he and Rowoon were a part of the same agency for a brief period of time which laid the foundation for their friendship. He expressed how Rowoon has been a supportive friend during difficult times, making their friendship even more special. When asked if any lingering affection remained after shooting romantic scenes, the actor humorously responded with a straightforward, "Nope".

Explaining why he thought of Rowoon for the role, Ahn Hyo Seop highlighted the theme of love in the series. He mentioned that love can take various forms, including friendship, and that his character, Yeon Jun, didn't have many scenes. With just eight scenes to develop a romantic connection, Ahn thought it made sense to work with a friend he already cherished.

"As for my character Yeon Jun, he doesn’t have a lot of scenes. Eight, to be exact. So, if he’s to like someone in that short span, why not bring in a friend I already love?" he said.
