A Nigerian environmentalist and climate activist said he was hopeful a United States administration under President-elect Joe Biden would put America back in the lead in tackling climate change. Desmond Majekodunmi said the world had been brought to the "precipice of climatic breakdown" under the leadership of Donald Trump and others with similar views on climate change.

Trump announced in 2017 that the US would pull out of the Paris climate accord, a move which came into action earlier this month, creating a major set back in tackling climate issues around the globe.

Majekodunmi, who runs the Lagos State Urban Forest and Animal Shelter Initiative (LUFASI) said nature had pressed the reset button with the new coronavirus pandemic forcing the world to shutdown, and that "the reset button has also been pressed for the White House" with Biden's victory. "Changes are coming and I am confident that as soon as Biden comes in he would reverse that whole process and he would put America back in the lead for tackling climate change because she was one of the nations that was driving it," Majekodunmi said.
