Karachi: A time bomb was discovered on a train at the main railway station of Pakistan's biggest city Karachi. After the bomb was found it was defused as per the Sindh Counter Terrorism Department.
According to Asad Raza, DIG Operations CTD, on Friday they discovered an IED device in a bag concealed under a seat of the Peshawar Express from Peshawar that had just arrived at Karachi Cantt Station.
According to Raza, the bag was discovered on Friday at 9:15 p.m. Within the suitcase was a "time bomb connected to wires, batteries, and switches."
“A vigilant security guard while observing the embarking of passengers noticed a bag lying under a seat. He immediately informed the CTD and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS),” Raza said.
According to the senior officer, the BDS discovered an IED device bomb with a watch timer linked to it, which was subsequently taken and defused through two controlled blasts.
“There was at least two kilograms of explosive material in the IED device which weighed five kilograms,” he added.
Every day, numerous passenger and freight trains arrive and depart from the five operational platforms at the bustling Cantt station.
The DIG claimed that someone had left the bag there and disappeared.
