Myanmar Earthquake: A powerful 7.7-magnitude Earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, sending strong tremors throughout the region, including neighboring Thailand and Vietnam. The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, was located at coordinates 96.07°E, 21.93°N in Myanmar. The tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok, where the Thai government responded swiftly to the chaos in the streets.

Thai Prime Minister Declares State of Emergency

In response to the widespread panic and damage caused by the tremors, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra declared a "state of emergency" in Bangkok. 

Several distressing videos of the earthquake’s aftermath have gone viral on social media, showing buildings shaking and people rushing into the streets in panic. One video from Bangkok shows a skyscraper with an infinity pool swaying dramatically, with water spilling from the edge as the building moved in the tremors. 

No Tsunami Threat Issued

Despite the strong tremors, no tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake. However, residents of the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant and follow updates from official channels. 

'India Stands Ready'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concerns regarding the situation in Myanma assured the country of India's full support and stated that the government is in contact with the authorities in Myanmar and Thailand. 

“I am concerned about the situation in the aftermath of the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. My thoughts are with everyone’s safety and well-being. India is ready to provide all possible assistance. I have instructed our authorities to remain on standby and directed the Ministry of External Affairs to stay in touch with the governments of Myanmar and Thailand,” wrote PM Modi in a post on X.
