China FM slams US over threats against NKorea

China's foreign minister Wang Yi criticized Washington over its "military threats and pressure" on North Korea, during a speech at an international forum in Beijing on Saturday.

The United States should "take North Korea's legitimate concerns seriously and address them, taking into account the measures that North Korea has taken to denuclearize and ease the situation" Wang said.

Wang also called on the United Nations to modify sanctions to support the reclusive country's suffering economy amid international sanctions and a pandemic that has shut off borders.

On Taiwan, Wang blamed the US for encouraging "separatist forces".

Wang spoke during the three-day World Peace Forum hosted by Tsinghua University and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.
