China on Friday lashed out at the U.S. as "unreliable" and said it "has no credibility" after the U.S. government has reportedly imposed new restrictions on Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian strongly condemned the measures, saying they would seriously disrupt scientific cooperation and damage the global supply chain.

The comments came a day after China announced it will send its top foreign policy officials to meet with their U.S. counterparts next week in Alaska, the first such talks since President Joe Biden took office.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki warned that the meeting could be "difficult." The US plans to bring up issues regarding Hong Kong, Taiwan and Xinjiang.

In response, Zhao said that China would make its position clear during the meeting and urged the U.S again to "stop interfering" in China's internal affairs.

Asked about a presidential statement by the U.N. Security Council calling for a reversal of the military coup in Myanmar on Wednesday, Zhao said he hoped the statement will "help de-escalate the situation."

He reaffirmed that China pursues a "friendly policy" towards "all Myanmar people".

"No matter how the situation in Myanmar changes, China's determination to promote China-Myanmar relations will not waver," he said.

Zhao also responded to a Chinese media report that trial would soon begin for two Canadians who were arrested two years ago in apparent retaliation for Canada's detention of a top Huawei executive.

He said their legal rights were being "fully protected."

Michael Kovrig, a former diplomat, and Michael Spavor, an entrepreneur, were arrested in December 2018, days after Meng Wanzhou was stopped at Vancouver airport.

China has revealed few details of the charges against the two, and Canadian diplomats allowed occasional visits have said little other than to call for them to be released.
