China holds foreign business promotion day in Hong Kong

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Hong Kong on Friday emphasized Beijing's intention to open up the so-called Greater Bay Area to foreign investment.

The office held a day-long event to try to promote overseas business interest in the initiative, which leverages Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong province together.

Liu Guangyuan, the Commissioner of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said China was committed to "inclusive and balanced" globalisation.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said the Greater Bay Area initiative was the territory's "best entry point" towards greater integration with China.

Lam also conditions had been met for the border between Hong Kong and mainland China to be reopened in a "graduate and orderly manner".

Hong Kong authorities have been pushing for mainland China to allow quarantine-free travel between them.

The city has one of the strictest quarantine policies in the world, with travelers returning from abroad having to serve up to 21 days of quarantine in government-designated hotels.
