Chinese broadcaster derides violence in US

Chinese state media continued to show extensive coverage Thursday of the mob violence at the U.S. Capitol the day before.

State broadcaster CCTV said the ceremonial congress session to verify the election of Democrat Joe Biden had been turned into a "farce".

Thousands of pro-Trump protesters mobbed the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday as lawmakers were counting the electoral college ballots that would confirm Biden as president. Lawmakers escaped into hiding in the building and waited for hours for police to get control.

Earlier, President Donald Trump had urged his supporters to march to Capitol Hill to protest his election defeat, which he continues to say was actually a victory.
