Thirty-two Britons and other Europeans evacuated from the virus-stricken Diamond Princess cruise ship were sent to a hospital in northwest England for a two-week quarantine on Saturday.

The apartments that awaited them at Arrowe Park Hospital, on the Wirral, were stocked with essentials including toiletries and surface wipes.

The evacuees will be quarantined for 14 days at the hospital, where more than 80 Britons brought home from Wuhan, the Chinese city at the centre of the viral outbreak, have already spent time in isolation.

Four UK nationals from the Diamond Princess who tested positive for the virus are being treated at hospitals in Japan.

Britain now has nine confirmed cases of the virus.
