Washington: India's voter ID system linked with Aadhaar database finds mention in Trump's recent speech while signing executive order, titled ‘Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,’ aims to tighten voting rules across the United States.
“India and Brazil, for example, are tying voter identification to a biometric database, while the United States largely relies on self-attestation for citizenship,” Trump said at the White House on Tuesday.
This is not the first time US has praised India's election process, back in November 2024, DOGE Chief and Tesla CEO Elon Musk hailed India for the successful Lok Sabha elections. He pointed out that India managed to count 640 million votes in a single day.
Muszk made these remakes back when California's results were delayed in the US Presidential Elections 2025, even 19 days after polling.
Responding to a post about vote counting in India, Musk wrote, "India counted 640 million votes in 1 day. California is still counting votes," along with a facepalm emoji to express his resentment.

Trump didn’t stop at India. He also praised countries like Germany and Canada, where paper ballots are counted in public by local officials, cutting down on disputes. “In tabulating votes, this substantially reduces the number of problems compared to the American patchwork of voting methods that can lead to basic chain-of-custody issues,” he said, throwing his weight behind paper ballots over electronic systems.
He further pointed to Denmark and Sweden, where mail-in voting is restricted to those unable to vote in person, and late-arriving ballots are discarded, regardless of postmark dates. “Many American elections now feature mass voting by mail, with officials accepting ballots without postmarks or those received well after Election Day. That’s got to stop,” Trump said.
The executive order introduces tough new measures, including mandatory documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration and a strict ban on counting ballots received after Election Day. “Free, fair, and honest elections unmarred by fraud, errors, or suspicion are fundamental to maintaining our constitutional Republic,” Trump said, adding, “The right of American citizens to have their votes properly counted and tabulated, without illegal dilution, is vital to determining the rightful winner of an election.”
