Washington: US President Donald Trump hosted an Iftar dinner at the White House on Thursday, expressing gratitude to the Muslim-American community for their support in the November 2024 presidential election.

During his address, Trump extended his appreciation to Muslim-American supporters, saying: “I want to extend a very special thanks to the hundreds of thousands of Muslim-Americans who supported us in record numbers in the 2024 presidential election. It was incredible. We started a little slow with you, but we came along. The Muslim community was there for us in November, and while I’m president, I will be there for you.”

Trump also highlighted the dinner’s aim to promote global peace and the significance of the Islamic holy month.

“Every day during this sacred month, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk, deepening their focus on prayer and devotion to God. Then, Muslims all over the world join family and friends each night to give thanks to the Almighty and break their fast with an Iftar dinner. We are all looking for peace for the entire world,” he stated.

Trump further emphasized his administration’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, following the resumption of the Israel-Hamas conflict in March due to the ceasefire’s expiration.

Expressing hope for an optimistic future for all, Trump said: “You have someone in the White House who loves you.”

In a lighter moment, Trump said “Muslims join family and friends each night at sundown to give thanks to the Almighty and break their fast with an Iftar dinner—just like this one. This is what we have tonight. I hope you like it. If you don’t like it, don’t complain, OK? You’re still in the White House.”

Earlier this month, Trump had extended his “warmest greetings” to those observing Ramadan.

The Iftar dinner was attended by international dignitaries, ambassadors, and representatives from various countries, including Princess Reema from Saudi Arabia.
