Washington: Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has raised a debate asking why voter id cards are not mandatory for Americans to vote unlike several other nations.

Saying so, Musk has further asked that those who oppose voter ID are doing so to commit fraud.

Taking to his social media platform, X, Elon Musk wrote, “Why Not America? Those who oppose voter ID are doing so to commit fraud.”

Are voter IDs required to vote in United States?

Rules regarding requirement of voter IDs are defined differently in different states. Let's take a look at how people can vote in US.

A person may be asked to show a photo ID like a driver's license, state ID, or passport. Or they may ask to see another form of identification like voter registration card, birth certificate, or social security card.
