EU leaders hold roundtable at Council summit

The European Union was on the brink of sealing an agreement on a massive budget and a coronavirus recovery package on Thursday, after objections from Hungary and Poland about tying EU funds to upholding the rule of law were almost overcome.

The compromise deal topped the agenda of the meeting of EU leaders and heads of government and state in Brussels on Thursday.

Other subjects high on the schedule of talks were the battle against the coronavirus and the trade talks with the UK.
