Belgium made a modest move forward with its COVID-19 vaccine rollout on Thursday, as 100 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses were given to elderly residents, nuns and staff inside a nursing home near the city of Namur.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine received approval from the European Medicines Agency at the end of December, but administering it has been slow due to logistical challenges and production supplies.

The European Union's executive commission gave the green light Wednesday to Moderna Inc.'s COVID-19 vaccine, providing the 27-nation bloc with a second vaccine to use in the desperate battle to tame the virus rampaging across the continent.
