Denmark's Prime Minister is urging world leaders to use the COVID-19 pandemic as "a wake-up call" to lessen world inequality.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen gave a pre-recorded speech to the United Nations General assembly on Friday.

"We must solve the global inequality that the virus has so brutally exposed. The inequality of today leads to the conflicts of tomorrow," she said.

Frederiksen also called on the global community to reform the asylum system to aid countries on paths of migration and "put an end to the cynical business of human smugglers."
