Ahead of her trip to Portugal on Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented her digital European Union COVID-19 travel pass. "I'm very curious to test and to see how this certificate will work," von der Leyen said, adding she was soon to embark on a tour from Brussels through all 27 EU member states.

Belgium officially began using the certificate on Wednesday. Beginning on July 1, EU nations will have to recognize the free vaccine certificate, which can take paper or digital form, and shows whether a person has either been vaccinated against the virus, has recently tested negative, or has recovered from the disease.
