Despite COVID-19 restrictions, the LGBTQI community in Sarajevo managed to celebrate their second official Pride Parade on Sunday through an online event and a procession through the streets.

Police accompanied vehicles in the city centre which were decked in rainbow flags, with members of the LGBTQI community honking their horns to mark Pride.

The coronavirus pandemic has restricted what is normally a more vibrant street parade.

"This procession is very important to us because there are a lot of problems in the LGBTQI community and the pandemic has unfortunately made them worse," said LGBTQI activist Lejla Huremovic.

A protest walk demanding equal rights for the LGBTQI community had originally been organised but was unable to take place due to the virus restrictions.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has to date seen 17,715 cases of the coronavirus and 532 deaths.
