Nordic leaders stand with Belarusian opposition

Nordic-Baltic foreign ministers on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the Belarusian opposition, after several arrests of leading figures.

"We are all very deeply concerned over the reports of serious human rights violations against the peaceful protesters by the regime in Belarus," said Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde.

She confirmed that Swedish and Lithuanian diplomats are currently with Svetlana Alexievich, the winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize in literature and now the only member of the opposition council's executive presidium still free in Belarus.
