Armenian Armed Forces continued shelling Azerbaijani villages on Thursday, according to the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.

They claimed Armenian forces shelled the Barda region using Tochka-U missiles.

"The Azerbaijani army will make an adequate reply," read a statement from the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.

Footage filmed by the Associated Press in Barda on Thursday showed damage to homes and vehicles and at least two craters which appeared to have been created by the shelling.

Clashes between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces in the region since September 27 have killed hundreds in the worst escalation of hostilities since 1994 when a truce ended a war that raged for several years.

Nagorno-Karabakh lies inside Azerbaijan but has been under the control of ethnic Armenian forces backed by Armenia for more than a quarter-century.
