Several of the world's leading winter athletes were tested to the limit in New Zealand on Saturday in the Obsidian Freeride competition on the Minaret Range near Lake Wanaka.

Wanaka's home rider Janina Kuzma showed that there was no substitute for local knowledge as she took the women's section - the 34 year-old beat Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and Jess Hotter into second and third.

Ronan Thompson won the European and Oceania Junior Freeride World Tour in 2019 and took the snowboard section by attacking the face.

The ski title went to Craig Murray, whose tight line and technical expertise saw him defeat Finn Bilous and Sam Smoothy into the minor podium places.
