G20 Dinner: International delegates embrace Indian attire, Japan First Lady dons a saree

From IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's wife Yuko Kishida, several top foreign dignitaries got dressed in traditional  Indian ensembles for the official dinner at the G-20 Dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday night. 

All of the foreign delegates were dressed to the nines for the significant event. Many people choose to adopt Indian fashion in unique ways. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter,  President Droupadi Murmu wrote, " It was a pleasure to host the Heads of delegations of G20 nations, Guest countries and International Organisations at the magnificent Bharat Mandapam for the G20 Summit Gala Dinner."

In the continued tweet thread, she added, " Experiencing our time-honoured tradition of Atithi Devo Bhava, I am sure that our distinguished guests are enjoying the best of Indian culture, cuisine and hospitality during their stay with us, as we work together for a better future." With the tweet, President Murmu also shared pictures of her being clicked with the foreign delegates in front of a Konark wheel replica.

Foreign delegates wear Traditional at G20 dinner 

Here are the glimpses of delegates wearing traditional clothes at the G20 Summit dinner. 

• IMF Chief Georgieva wore a purple ethnic suit that she paired with a golden dupatta at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi for the G-20 Dinner

• Japanese PM Fumio Kishida's wife Yuko Kishida wore a beautiful green saree. She looked exquisite in Indian wear.  She complemented her outfit with a pink blouse.

• South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's wife Tshepo Motsepe was wearing an Indo-western outfit. She tied her hair in a bun and accessorised it with a gajra.

• Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar came for the dinner in a black bandhgala suit. His wife Kobita Jugnauth looked gorgeous in a saree.

• Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, exuded ethnic charm in a saree teamed with a pearl necklace.

• UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's wife Akshata Murty also added a traditional touch to her modern outfit.

Before the start of the dinner, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed world leaders at a dias, set against a backdrop depicting the ruins of the Nalanda University in Bihar and India's G20 presidency theme -- 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - 'One Earth, One Family, One Future.' 

Meanwhile, PM Modi was wearing a white kurta with churidar. He elevated his look with a blue V-neck striped jacket. President Murmu donned a traditional beige colour saree with a contrasting turquoise border. Prior to the dinner, PM Modi met world leaders at the inaugural session of the two-day G20 Summit.
