A group of Italian COVID-19 patients arrived in Germany for treatment on Tuesday. An Italian air force plane landed early Tuesday at Leipzig-Halle airport, where two ambulances awaited the patients.

Saxony's state Governor Michael Kretschmer on Monday said that the region had agreed to a request from the Italian government and would take in six patients.

He said hospitals in the region had signaled that they have space.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.

The vast majority of people recover from the new virus.

According to the World Health Organization, people with mild illness recover in about two weeks, while those with more severe illness may take three to six weeks to recover.
