Anti-security law protest at HKong China office

A small show of defiance in Hong Kong against the big meeting in Beijing: protesters outside China's government liaison office denouncing plans to impose a new security law.

Democratic Party Chairman Wu Chi-wai on Friday led a few small groups of less than eight people in a short march to the liaison office.

Police stopped them and fined them for breaching temporary anti-virus rules that ban more than eight people gathering together.

But after a wait of more than half-an-hour, the small groups of protesters were allowed to walk up to the Chinese liaison office and shout their demands.

"The group gathering ordinance basically would like to find ways to help resolve or try to reduce the riskiness of the pandemic of the Wuhan virus," Chi-wai said.

The whole event ended peacefully.

Hong Kong's democratic lawmakers have called Beijing's proposed security law "the end of Hong Kong".
