Karnataka CM shares his sorrow as death toll of Indian nationals rises to 8, with Karnataka native Hanumaiah Shivakumar confirmed dead in Colombo blasts

In yet another tragic loss, one more Indian has been confirmed to have died, on Monday, in one of the eight Easter Sunday serial blasts which rocked Sri Lanka on Sunday, according to Indian High Commission in Colombo, bringing the total to eight Indian victims.

In response to the Indian High Commission's tweet, Karnataka Chief Minister H.D Kumaraswamy has expressed his sorrow of the loss of Hanumaiah Shivakumar, saying that the Chief Secretary was in touch with the Indian consulate in Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the day, there had been another explosion in Colombo, following Sunday's serial blasts. Even as the Sri Lankan government had imposed an emergency in light of the attack, international media reports informed that a van had exploded near an unnamed Church. The reports added that the blast occurred when the bomb-defusing unit was trying to defuse an explosive in a van.

The development came minutes after the Sri Lankan police found 87 bomb detonators in Colombo's Central bus stand, as per reports. From midnight on Monday, the Sri Lankan government has imposed a conditional state of emergency, while Tuesday would be observed as a national day of mourning. This decision was reportedly taken in a National security council meeting on Monday. Earlier in the day, Sri Lankan police had arrested 24 suspects in connection with the blasts.

"The number of arrests on the incidents has now gone up to 24 and they have been transferred into the custody of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations," Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera was quoted as saying by the local TV.

The bomb blasts on Sunday hit three churches- St Anthony's Church in Colombo, St Sebastian's Church in the western coastal town of Negombo and another church in the eastern town of Batticaloa, three hotels - the Shangri La, the Cinnamon Grand, and the Kingsbury and two other places -  Dematagoda and Dehiwala on Sunday killing over 200 people and injuring several hundred more.
