'Mahatma Gandhi changed history': UN Chief Antonio Guterres's tribute

The United States General Secretary Antonio Guterres on Wednesday tweeted paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary. The UN chief called Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who is remembered in India as Bapu and revered as the Father of the Nation, a pioneer in non-violent movements. He said that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy was the core of the work of the United Nations. He also said that Bapu's non-violent movements such as the Satyagraha changed the course of history.

PM Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary at Raj Ghat in New Delhi. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi also paid floral tributes to the Father of Nation. Both the BJP and Congress have planned several events to mark the event. PM Modi will go to Gujarat for launching the 'Gandhi Sankalp Yatra'.

Events celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in India

A host of events will place across India on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Both BJP and Congress have made detailed plans including foot marches, cleanliness drive etc to mark the occasion.  A large number of events have been planned by foreign consulates, educational institutions, business groups etc. One such event is 'The Gandhian Challenge' organised by AIM, NITI Aayog's Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and UNICEF India.

BJP's programmes for 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended its Gandhi Sankalp Yatra by a period of three months. As per the memo sent to the BJP leaders, the Gandhi Sankalp Yatra will be a 120-day programme. It will come to an end on January 31, 2020. It had been scheduled to be held between October 2 and October 31. The BJP is planning to spread awareness about Mahatma Gandhi's ideals and principles of non-violence, Swaraj and simplicity to mark his 150th birth anniversary. PM Modi will begin the Yatra from Gujarat on Wednesday.
