Om Birla meets Prime Minister Ana Brnabic of Serbia at IPU in Belgrade

The speaker of the lower house in Parliament, Om Birla, on his trip to Belgrade for attending IPU met the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic.

The Speaker of the Lower House in Parliament, Om Birla, on his trip to Belgrade for attending IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) met the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic on Wednesday, October 16. India and Serbia exchange mutual warmth as both countries were the co-founders of the non-alignment movement. Om Birla is on his visit to Belgard with a delegation of other MPs from both the houses to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union. 

Official statement released post the meeting 

An official statement released after their meeting said, "Observing that India and Serbia have been close friends, Birla recalled that as co-founders of the Non-Alignment Movement the two countries have traditionally enjoyed mutual trust and warmth. Birla mentioned that India has been supportive of Serbia on crucial issues including Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Om Birla invites Serbia 

The Lok Sabha Speaker also noticed that Indian organizations are taking a keen interest in Serbia and they have put their resources into significant parts of the businesses. Birla noticed that the two-sided exchange is rising, however, it is far underneath potential and, hence, the two nations need to reinforce financial ties further. He welcomed Serbia to participate in the World Food India and other business events in the country. He additionally hoped that Serbia would take part in the fifth India-Europe 29 Business Forum which will be held in New Delhi on November 20-21, 2019.

Referring to the Serbians’ enthusiasm for Yoga and Indian culture, Birla highlighted that International Day of Yoga was commended in 14 Serbian urban areas incorporating into Belgrade this year. He also valued the profound intrigue that Serbians take in Indian culture, expressions, and moves and said that Serbia is developing as another destination for Indian filmmakers. "I hope that our filmmakers would avail the opportunities to shoot more Indian films in Serbia," the Lok Sabha speaker said. Birla also recognized Serbia's support to India's candidature at WHO, World Customs Organization, International Civil Aviation Organization and India's enrollment for NSG.  He likewise asked for Serbia's help for India's re-appointment to the Council of International Maritime Organization, the appointment of which will be held in November-December 2019.
