On assuming UNSC presidency, France vows to bring perpetrators of Pulwama attack to justice and welcomes IAF pilot Abhinandan's return to India

The French government has vowed to rake up the Pulwama terror attack at the United Nations Security Council and bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.

40 CRPF jawans attained martyrdom on February 14 in an attack orchestrated by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. And France, which has been fully supportive of India in its fight against terrorism, has promised to bring this matter at the UNSC.

"France, which is assuming the presidency of the United Nations Security Council today, will do its utmost so that those responsible for the terrible attack in Pulwama are sanctioned," Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs said.

France was one of the first countries to condemn the Pulwama attack, and the first country to confirm it will move resolution at the UN to designate JeM chief Masood Azhar as a 'global terrorist'.

Further, the country's Foreign affairs minister also welcomed Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman's return to India two days after he was taken into custody by the Pakistani army.

"Welcome the easing of tensions b/w India&Pakistan&release of IAF pilot. I hail the two governments’ choice of restraint and responsibility and urge them to resume bilateral dialogue," he added.

The IAF pilot made his way back home after spending two days in the custody of Pakistan government. On February 27, Pakistan Air Force aircrafts entered the Indian airspace and try to attack the military establishments.

But an Air Force team comprising of Wing Commander Abhinandan confronted the Pakistan jets and forced them back, while also shooting down one of their F-16s. It was during this air battle that IAF pilot Abhinandan's jet was shot, and he ended up landing in Pakistan territory, following which he was taken into custody.
