UN discusses impact of climate on global security

The UN Security Council met Tuesday to discuss the impact of climate change on international peace and security. Calling climate change the "defining issue of our time" Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated his plea to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

The UN Security Council met Tuesday to discuss the impact of climate change on international peace and security. Calling climate change the "defining issue of our time" Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated his plea to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he disagrees with "People around the world who will say that this is all kind of green stuff from a bunch of tree-hugging tofu munchers and not suited to international diplomacy."

Johnson said the UN needs to organizations t the world body to develop a swift and effective response.

Nisreen Elsiam, the president of the Sudan Youth for Climate Change warned that climate change will significantly increase migration of all kinds. John Kerry, the US special envoy for climate told the council that President Joe Biden's decision to rejoin the Paris climate agreement is permanent and is "irreversible by any president, by any demagogue of the future."
