US Elections 2024: Citing Kamala Harris' 'infectious' laugh, Vladimir Putin, in an ironic comment said that Russia wants her (Harris) to win the US presidential election 2024. Putin, known for his frequent remarks on US politics, often laced with mockery, recently commented on Biden's suggestion that his supporters rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Here, we are going to do that too, we're going to support her, he said during a question and answer session at Russia's Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, according to AFP.

Putin, while speaking about US politics, also commented on Harris' laugh. He said, "She laughs so contagiously that it shows that everything is fine with her."

Putin also referenced former U.S. President Donald Trump's imposition of numerous sanctions on Russia, expressing hope that if Harris performs well, she might avoid taking similar actions. The Kremlin leader emphasised, "Ultimately, the choice is up to the American people, and we will respect that choice."

These comments came soon after the US indicted two employees of the state-run Russian news network RT and imposed sanctions on its top editors, accusing them of attempting to influence the upcoming U.S. election.

In February, Putin had shown support for Biden over Trump, calling the current president more "predictable."

The White House had responded by urging Putin to "stay out" of US elections. Last year, Putin had criticized the US political system, labeling it "rotten" and arguing that Washington was in no position to lecture other nations on democracy.

While U.S. intelligence agencies believe Russia favours Trump due to his less supportive stance toward Ukraine in the ongoing conflict, Putin pointed out that Trump, during his presidency, had implemented more sanctions against Russia than any previous US administration.
