Rome: A 29-year-old Catholic school teacher in Italy has been suspended after it was revealed she was also working as an OnlyFans model. The incident came to light after one of the parents of a student recognised Elena Maragaon on the adult content platform and shared the information with others via a WhatsApp group chat and Facebook, The Telegraph reported.

Following the complaint, the school took immediate action, but Maraga defended her side, stating that her actions outside of work did not harm anyone. She also explained that her monthly salary of 1,200 euros (about Rs 1.1 lakh) was not enough to cover her expenses, prompting her to explore alternative career options.

"That's why I had already considered other careers. I know friends who earn very well. I simply thought that I'm proud of the physical results I've achieved and I like to show them off," she told local Italian media.

Maraga, who holds a degree in Educational Sciences and has five years of experience at a Catholic nursery school, emphasized her passion for teaching. "I love teaching children, it's my calling. But I earn much more on the Internet. I opened OnlyFans a month ago, partly for fun, partly out of curiosity, partly to see if you could really earn money. In one day I get a month's salary," she explained.

In the wake of the controversy, Italy’s Ministry of Education is considering a new ethical code that may prevent teachers from engaging in adult content work, urging educators to avoid any conduct that could harm the reputation of their schools.

'It's Her Business': Social Media Reacts

As the story gained traction online, many social media users criticised both the school administration and the parent who exposed Maraga.

"What she does after hours is her business. Maybe the dad should look at himself. People in glass houses," one user commented. Another added, "Her private life is no one else's concern."

However, some opinions were more critical, with one person stating, "I think it's just about ethics. If you are a teacher, you have to set an example for the students."

In a similar situation last year, YouTuber Zara Dar made headlines when she quit her PhD program to become an OnlyFans model, describing her decision as a career shift and a gamble on her future.
