Jimmy Lai applies for bail at Hong Kong High Court

Hong Kong pro-democracy activist and media tycoon Jimmy Lai applied for bail in High Court after his bail was denied at the magistrate court last Saturday.

He has been charged under the city's national security law, on suspicion of colluding with foreign forces. A van believed to be carrying Lai pulled into the High Court on Wednesday. Lai is the most high-profile person out of more than two dozen charged under the sweeping law since it was imposed by Beijing in June.
