Thais were treated to a cosmic spectacle on Thursday as a solar eclipse darkened the sky over Southeast Asia.

Images from the Regional Observatory for the Public in Thailand's northeast region of Nakhon Ratchasima showed the moon partially blocking the vibrant orange sun at around 0500 GMT.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon doesn't fully eclipse the sun and instead creates the appearance of a "ring of fire" or ring of light around the moon.
