Ohio: As biotech entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy announces his bid for Ohio governor, public interest in his personal life has surged, particularly regarding his wife, Apoorva Ramaswamy. Vivek recently took to social media to praise her, calling her an “amazing wife, caring mother, and boss surgeon” while introducing her as “Ohio’s next First Lady.”

Who is Apoorva Ramaswamy?

• Born as Apoorva Tewari, she is a highly accomplished surgeon specialising in swallowing and voice disorders, particularly among cancer survivors.
• She currently serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at The Ohio State University.
• Apoorva obtained her MD from Yale University and has dedicated her career to both clinical practice and medical research.
• She also serves on the medical advisory board for the National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders and is actively involved in the Dysphagia Research Society.

Vivek-Apoorva's Unique Love Story

Their journey together began during Apoorva’s first week of medical school, where she met Vivek, then a law student. Recalling their first conversation at a campaign event in 2023, she humorously admitted she had mistakenly mentioned meeting another Vivek in med school, leading her future husband to walk away disinterested. 

However, fate had different plans. Later that evening, they crossed paths again and quickly bonded over shared values and even the coincidence of being neighbours. “We realised how much we have in common, how much we shared, and the fact that we were neighbours. and here we are, we've been together ever since”, said Apoorva. 

Vivek, standing beside Apoorva during the conversation, emphasised the importance of marriage—a lesson he inherited from his parents. "Who you marry matters," he stated, noting that this is a value he and Apoorva strive to instil in their two sons.
