Mexico museums reopens with virus safety rules

Museums in Mexico City have officially started to reopen their doors to the public at a 30% capacity on Tuesday.

After almost fourth months of closure due to the pandemic, Museo Soumaya is one of the few cultural venues of Mexico City that opened its doors to the public.

University student Laura Tabal attended the museum on its first day of reopening.

She said she hardly saw visitors and that the feeling of fear will continue as a part of the new normal.

Although the government of Mexico City announced the reopening of the museums as of Tuesday, only a handful of the city's museums were ready to accept visitors.

The spaces of the well-known National Institute of Anthropology and History, and of the Fine Arts and Literature museum are not ready to receive the public because they must adapt their facilities to be able to comply with sanitary protocols.

Movie theatres are expected on open on Wednesday as part of an easing of Mexico City's coronavirus lockdown.

The city government reports about 80,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and about 9,400 COVID-19 deaths so far.

Nationwide, Mexico reported 5,558 newly confirmed coronavirus cases Monday, bring the accumulated total to 485,836.

Confirmed deaths rose by 705 to just over 53,000.
