Israeli attack helicopters struck Hezbollah observation posts along the Lebanon border overnight on Tuesday/Wednesday, after shots were fired at Israeli troops operating in the area.

It came after Israeli troops fired flares and smoke shells along the heavily guarded border.

The Israeli military claimed on Wednesday that no Israeli forces were wounded, and that there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage in Lebanon.

The military also ordered civilians in nearby communities to shelter in place and blocked roads near the border.

Those restrictions were lifted early Wednesday. The incident took place near the northern town of Manara.

Israel has been bracing for a possible attack by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah since an Israeli airstrike killed a Hezbollah fighter in neighbouring Syria last month.
