Israeli women call for peace in Jerusalem

Israeli women staged a protest outside Jerusalem's Old City walls Wednesday, calling for peaceful coexistence between Jews and Arabs amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.

Women Wage Peace activists, many wearing white, called for a halt to the violence, advancing the message of peace and hope.

More than a week into the war, and despite growing international pressure for a cease-fire, Israel's military said Wednesday it widened its strikes on militant targets in the Palestinian territory's south to blunt continuing rocket fire from Hamas.

Gaza health officials say at least 219 Palestinians have been killed.

Twelve people in Israel have died.
