Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz on Thursday called for the European Union to call off accession talks with Turkey and impose sanctions against the nation over its maritime dispute with Greece and crackdowns on members of the opposition and journalists.
"A clear reaction against this Turkish behaviour is needed and the EU must draw red lines for President Erdogan," Kurz said in Brussels where leaders have gathered for a two-day summit.
"This means firstly the interruption of accession negotiations and secondly sanctions against Turkey," he added.
